The High Sheriff

Committee Responsibilities

The High Sheriff of the day chairs the Crimebeat Committee. The High Sheriff in nomination is asked to join the committee when their year in nomination commences, and the previous year’s High Sheriff remains on the committee for one year.

Fundraising Responsibilities

Each High Sheriff is asked to commit to raise funds for Crimebeat. The target is to raise sufficient funds to make grants throughout the year as well as adding to The High Sheriff’s Fund, an invested fund that is being built up, aiming to generate sufficient annual income to support Crimebeat projects in years to come. Additionally, The High Sheriff commits to host an event organised by the Community Foundation for Wiltshire & Swindon.

Project Responsibilities

The High Sheriff may wish to make a formal visit and/or presentation of award certificate to any of the projects funded by Crimebeat. The High Sheriff will also lead on the nomination of a project to the National Crimebeat awards, and will accompany any project shortlisted to the National Awards ceremony.

The Crimebeat Committee

The Crimebeat Committee is made up of the current, past and future High Sheriffs and representatives from Wiltshire and Swindon organisations that have an interest in statutory or voluntary youth provision and support. Each organisation nominates the most appropriate position within the organisation to represent them on the Crimebeat committee, and the position on the committee is linked to that role, rather than a specific individual. In addition to the standing members of this committee each High Sheriff may appoint members to the committee for the duration of his year in office The Crimebeat Committee, which meets three times a year, has responsibility for the general policy and direction of Crimebeat and has specific responsibility for assessing grant applications and for recommending grants.
